A Note from Emily: It Starts on a Pinboard

Beauty begins on a pinboard
A Note from Emily: It Starts on a Pinboard

Emily's pinboard

I remember my very first pinboard.

It lived in the sunroom of my city apartment, back when BECASA was just a dream and I was figuring out how to get back home and build something of my own. I didn't know what it would become yet. But I knew I wanted to create.

BECASA has always been for the woman who appreciates richness and quality, but also simplicity and versatility.

That tension lives on my boards. Ever since that first one, they’ve been central to how I think and how I work. Ideas begin there.

Even if I don’t return to them for months, sometimes years, if it moves me, I pin it.

A sun-faded newspaper clipping.
A ribbon I picked up somewhere.
A fabric swatch I left behind but can’t forget.
A crumpled scrap of something.
Photos I love. Things I've carried with me.

Emily's pinboard

I know we’ve grown used to digital pinboards. Pinterest has its place.
But I’m a tactile collector.

There’s something healing about clearing a board after a big project or at the start of a new season. I do this all the time.
Pulling out every pin. Letting it go. Starting fresh. A pinboard is not a decoration. It's a workhorse.

Clean slates are available anytime you’re brave enough to rebuild.
Design is supposed to be messy.
Clarity almost always comes after rearranging.

And yes, I keep silver T-pins within reach at all times. I haven't run out yet.

The beauty you see here?
It starts on a pinboard. Never polished.

x, Emily
